The Boys From Bitter Creek are a small outfit who have a passion for the Old West, not the Old West you see on the t.v. or in the movies, but the Old West as it really was. We take our inspiration not from story lines used in Hollywood but from true historical facts. We do not claim to be the best and we certainly do not claim to be the most knowledgeable, but we will endeavor to get as close to portraying the truth as we possibly can. Unfortunately there are no easy shortcuts to achieving this, it is a case of spending the time and money on the history books, reading contemporary memoirs and studying original photographs in order to learn the facts.

Although we have a love of most aspects of the Old West our main passion is the life of the old cow hand. We concentrate our efforts on recreating the time when the cowboy was the boss of the plains. Our aim is to be able to tell the public of the hardships, trials and rewards of the cowboy life in the 1880’s. We try to recreate a typical cow camp as accurately as we possibly can. We try to research all items of equipment and clothing used so we can definitely place them in the time span we are trying to recreate, whether it be saddles, hats, guns , coffee pots or cutlery. No doubt sometimes we will get it wrong, if we do, it will be due to ignorance on our part not lethargy. Many of the items we use on our camps are original artifacts from the old west that we have collected over the years.

The Boys from Bitter Creek have been formed for less than a year and we are still finding our feet, but we have many goals which we hope to achieve. We want our cow camps to be as realistic as possible, from cooking traditional food to using bed rolls and tarps for our beds. We also aim to set up camps all through the year, come rain snow or shine. The men we aim to portray did not only go out in summer months, therefore neither shall we.

The Boys From Bitter Creek are all members of Trailblazers Living History Society.
